Our congregation is governed by people who have been appointed as ‘ruling elders’, collectively known as the ‘Kirk Session’. Our minister is also an elder and part of the Kirk Session, but he is separately known as the ‘teaching elder’. In Whiteabbey Presbyterian we currently have 28 elders.
As our church is a registered charity, the elders are also the legal Trustees of the charity.
Many of the day–to–day activities of running our congregation are undertaken by the Church Committee. Issues such as finance, maintaining the buildings and facilities, catering, communication, managing the IT, etc.
The committee is made up of 20 members of the congregation who are elected every 3 years. The elders are also members of the Committee.
