The boys brigade is an evangelistic outreach whose object
is “The advancement of Christ’s kingdom among boys, and
the promotion of all that tends towards a true Christian manliness”.
Thus it takes a holistic approach to boys, seeking to develop them
spiritually and in other ways. An award scheme provides motivation
for progression and is structured around the areas of leadership,
adventure, physical, interests, and community service.
Future Plans If we have sufficient leaders I would plan to be more
involved in work with other companies so that boys see the ‘bigger’
picture, and that they are not the only BB company around. I’d
also like to raise awareness of international issues by use of material
developed by the BB International team. Currently our annual camp
has been to sites in Northern Ireland, I’d love to eventually
end up taking the boys abroad, but that’s several years down
the line yet
Operates: 2nd week in September to shortly before Christmas. We
usually have a break of 2-3 weeks over Christmas before resuming
in early January. Our display is around two weeks before Easter
and finishes the programme for Anchor Boys. Junior Section and Company
Section continue for a few weeks after the display.
Regular events: Junior Section weekend and Company Section annual
camp.
